What it is
Cursor is a desktop code editor based on VS Code, with an agent that plans, edits files and runs commands across your project, plus inline completions as you type. The same agent runs in a terminal CLI, as cloud agents that work in their own virtual machines, and from an iOS app. It offers models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, SpaceXAI and Cursor's own Composer models, and adds Bugbot code review.
Cursor became part of SpaceX in 2026, and its individual plans are now bundled with Grok and X features. The free plan has limited agent requests. The $8 Plus plan uses only Grok models inside Cursor; cloud agents, code review and third-party models start with Premium at $30 a month, and third-party model usage is billed separately at API list price.
Best for
- Making changes that span many files in a codebase
- Developers who already use VS Code and its extensions
- Running several agents in parallel on separate tasks
