What it is

Amp is a coding agent and development environment from the team that left Sourcegraph to run it as an independent company. Each thread gets an orb: a fresh remote machine with your code, plugins and tools, so agents can work in parallel without worktrees and continue after you close your laptop. You can steer threads from the web, a CLI, or a beta Mac app and iPhone app, and agents can also run on your own machines.

Amp charges no token fees: you use your own API keys or existing ChatGPT and Claude subscriptions. The free Hobby plan pays as you go for orb time, or you can use your own runners for free. The $20 Individual plan includes 45,000 orb minutes. Team workspaces cost nothing extra.

Best for

  • Running agents that keep working while you are away
  • Using an existing ChatGPT or Claude subscription in another agent
  • Teams that share threads and review agent work together
