What it is
Kilo Code is an MIT-licensed coding agent that runs as a VS Code extension (also in Cursor and other Open VSX editors), a JetBrains plugin and a CLI, which is a fork of OpenCode. It reads and edits your project, runs commands, and can hand work to cloud agents started from a browser or Slack. A desktop app for macOS, Windows and Linux is in beta. Anaconda acquired Kilo in July 2026.
The extension is free; you pay for model usage, either with your own API keys, local models through Ollama or LM Studio, or through Kilo's gateway of 500+ models, which it says charges no markup. The Teams plan costs $15 per user a month for shared billing and collaboration. Costs follow the models you choose, so long agent sessions on frontier models add up.
Best for
- Developers who want one agent across VS Code, JetBrains and the terminal
- Choosing between frontier, open-weight and local models per task
- Teams moving over from Roo Code
