What it is
Claude is Anthropic's chat assistant. It reads files and images, writes and edits text, works through problems and writes code, on the web, in Mac and Windows desktop apps and on iOS and Android. Free accounts use the Sonnet and Haiku models with up to five Projects; Pro adds the Opus models, Claude Code for programming, and Claude in Chrome, a browser extension.
It suits people who do a lot of writing, research or coding and want one assistant for all three. Usage resets on a rolling five-hour window, and the free plan reaches its limit sooner. Pro costs $20 a month ($17 a month billed yearly), and Max plans from $100 a month raise usage to 5x or 20x Pro.
