What it is
Canva is a browser and app-based design tool built around templates, with AI throughout. Canva AI, built on the Canva Design Model, takes a request in conversation and returns designs made of separate, editable elements rather than a flat image, and can apply your brand fonts and colors. The Magic Studio tools still cover jobs like Magic Design, Magic Write, Magic Edit, Magic Grab, Magic Expand and Magic Switch for resizing and translating designs, and Magic Layers splits a flat image into editable parts.
Canva suits non-designers and busy marketing teams who want results fast. The free plan covers basic design, but AI tools carry usage limits, with higher allowances on Pro and Business plans and an extra AI Pass add-on for heavy use.
Best for
- Social posts, flyers and presentations without design training
- Small teams keeping visuals on brand with a shared brand kit
- Turning a flat image into editable layers
