What it is

Gemini Notebook is Google's source-grounded research tool, renamed from NotebookLM in July 2026. You add your own sources to a notebook, then ask questions and get answers built on the latest Gemini models and grounded in that material. It can also turn sources into Audio Overviews (a podcast-style discussion), Video Overviews, mind maps, reports, flashcards, quizzes, data tables, infographics and slide decks. It works on the web and in iOS and Android apps.

It suits students, researchers and anyone working from a fixed set of documents. Existing NotebookLM notebooks carry over. A free version is available, and Google's paid AI plans raise limits; code execution in notebooks is rolling out first to AI Ultra and then AI Pro subscribers.

Best for

  • Studying from your own readings, notes and lecture files
  • Turning documents into a podcast-style Audio Overview
  • Making flashcards, quizzes and mind maps from sources
