What it is
Browser Use is an MIT-licensed Python library that lets a language model drive a browser: it reads the page, then clicks, types and navigates until a task is done. It works with its own BU 2.0 model, with OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models, or with local models through Ollama. Browser Use Cloud adds hosted browsers with proxies, a web agent API, an MCP server and a remote Playwright endpoint.
It is a developer tool: you write code or call an API, not a point-and-click app. The library is free to self-host. The cloud is pay as you go, with browsers at $0.02 an hour, agent runs billed at model cost plus 20%, and a small free credit for new accounts. Reliability depends on the model and on how hostile the target site is to automation.
Best for
- Developers automating websites that have no API
- Extracting data from sites that need logins and clicks
- Giving an existing agent a hosted browser through MCP
